TL;DR: Heima is a home management app I originally built for my family, evolving from a simple idea in 2012 to a fully featured app launched in 2021. It includes smart shopping lists, meal planning, chore tracking with XP, and more. Despite competition and personal challenges—including a stroke and my daughter’s leukemia—I chose to double down on Heima in 2024.

It’s been just over a year since we were hit with the most heart-wrenching news of our lives: our precious little Ada, who was only 2.5 years old at the time, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We are facing another family crisis, the second one in a short period. When I started developing Famn, it was out of a need to simplify the chaos of family life. Between planning dinners, managing grocery lists, driving the kids to activities, and trying to remember birthdays, life was filled with sticky notes on the fridge, disappearing lists, and a collection of apps that never quite did what I needed. I wanted an app that could bring all of these tasks together into one seamless experience.

I am excited to announce that I have finally taken the leap and created my first video on YouTube! However, my recent hobby of flying FPV drones has given me the perfect opportunity to start creating and uploading videos. However, the remote control was mounted on the first floor, and my family and I spent most of our time on the second floor. This sparked my interest in creating a mobile application that could connect to the ventilation system and adjust the temperature and air flow from anywhere in the house. At the time, there were no affordable solutions available, so I decided to try and create my own.

I have been working on a photo-display project that will showcase photos and album art. In order to accomplish this, I needed to extract album art from the music that is currently playing. I decided to gather this information from Last.fm it is a reliable source that combines multiple sources of information. The project pulls recent tracks from Last.fm and distributes the information through MQTT and WebSocket. I have also created a small browser application to display the currently playing track, artist, album, and album art.

Components that are harvested from iMac 27" 2011. The goal of this harvest is to see if I can reuse these components in other projects. The webcamera- and bluetooth-pcb came with the same wiring bundle. Webcam Purpose: Reuse this webcam as a USB webcam. I managed to figure out which cables was USB signals and soldered on the wires to a USB type-A. The camera works. Next step is to figure out what’s the other cables (red and grey) functions.
